“The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” Nolen Bushnell
Today, I came across a quote from Atari and Chuck E. Cheese’s founder, Nolan Bushnell. He said, “The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.” That is certainly a lot to think about in just a couple of sentences!
1. “The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”
I dream a lot… sometimes, it is where I find my best ideas. I dream a lot… sometimes, it is where I find my nemesis. I love being a dreamer. Sometimes, it gets me to places, opens opportunities and reveals relationships I wouldn’t ordinarily have encountered!
2. “There are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week.”
Isn’t that something?? I used to consider myself a doer. Maybe having four kids has changed my viewpoint on doing. Accomplishing. Overcoming. Taking chances. Even for the most enthusiastic, active and motivated “doer”, you still have to prioritize your doing. “Doing” is a process of priorities for me. I am a list-maker: I suppose it is a part of my creative-thinking process. List-making is a part of my “doing” process. List-making is the first step in doing.
Did I mention that I love making lists? But, what happens when a dreamer makes a list?? Usually, not too much. That is one reason I appreciate Nolan Bushnell’s point of view so much!! It is SO true!! Unless I “do” something with my todays, they will never become tomorrows or next weeks!! Sometimes, it is too easy to sit on my dreams.
Applied lesson:
Communicating with clients is a process of planning, preparation and anticipation. Remember, if YOU don’t communicate with your clients… someone else will. Not just next week. Not just tomorrow. But today. If it is on your list “to do” and you don’t like to or have the time to, use resources [like me] to keep your company communicating. Don’t sit on your dreams… allow me to make them a reality!
